How to Boost 3G/4G Internet Signal of USB Broadband and Pocket Wifi for Smart/Globe/Sun

How to improve Internet Signal of our USB Broadband and Pocket Wifi for Smart/Globe/Sun

Are you tired of very poor signal and very slow internet? Some may be lucky if they are near by a tower but many unfortunate ones are having hard time using the service provided by mobile networks in Philippines. Unfortunately we all pay the same price but location and coverage is very important.
This article maybe will inspire you to build your own antenna to boost your internet speed.

How to do it?
Using any available cheap materials you can find in your area and some old antenna plug thats all. Flattend softdrinks Can, some solid wire and coaxial cables or just find some old crc9 plug or just make one.

Introducing The Biquad Antenna

A Biquad directional antenna is basically made of two quadrangles as the name Biquad. But not just any squares the dimensions of the antenna must be strictly measured as this affects the frequency range of your antenna. A typical example as shown below I used to construct a simple biquad.

The 3G/4G range for example of most networks in Philippines Smart/Globe/Sun are in the range of  1800-2100 megaherts. If you build your biquad a little too big the frequency may go to 2400mhz which will interfere with your 2.4ghz wifi signal. The size of the squares is proportional to the frequency does you need a good steel ruler or a caliper if you like to build but I used a ruler and it worked :)

Speed test before using usb broadband 0.90Mbs

Speed test After Antenna was Installed using usb broadband 2.98 Mbps Trippled!

The antenna I used?  From Scrap materials I found in my room and some old coaxial cable and a wire gauze I have laying somewhere but  you can use coke can flattened and hot glued on a cardboard it serves as a reflector of the signal. Remember this is directional so face it on where the best signal is coming from mine just lying flat but tripled the speed

Let us Start Building the Antenna First.

Splice or remove the cover of a solid wire gauge 12 or 10 and straighten it as much as possible.

In a bond paper draw using a ruler a figure same as below which will serve as your guide in bending the solid copper wire.

Bend the wires according to the guide drawn and carefully observing the length angles and height. Solder the coaxial cable from two separate side of the middle part of the antenna

And You can fix it standing in a reflector remember the reflector connects to the outer wire of the coaxial cable and the inner wire of the coaxial cable is soldered at the other end. Finish product like this one another guy made this not mine :D

mine looks terrible like this but tripled my signal so it worked!

The other end of the cable that you need a CRC9 plug which you can buy from an eletronic shop near your area or you will have to make your own.

CRC 9 Plug you can get from old antenna or buy in a store

DIY CRC9 plug using copper plate and a wire hot glued you can solder the coaxial cable in that and your done :D

After building the antenna now you have to connect it to your device.

Device 1.   A pocket wifi with an antenna port! The Lucky guys! its plug and play, just plug the biquad antenna in the antenna port and searching for the best direction to point your biquad antenna.

Device 2. If you are using a USB broadband well dont worry but you have to do a little extra step. Open your USB Broad band and look for the small antenna port where you could plug in your crc9 plug.

If you dont know how to make a crc plug or dont want to buy 1 then experiment on this. Connect the wires from your coaxial cabble to this spots and test it yourselves tell ne if it worked I tried single wire only it helped but not as good as 2 point connection doubled the signal anyway at 1.87 mbps but good connection got upto 3.5 mbps

Good Luck and Have fun with this project...Share it to help this is pretty good in provinces weak signal areas you can mount the antenna outside or if you have long cables on the roof or outside the window! Have Fun! ;)
